For the internal sinus lift, the bone inside the implant site is displaced in the direction of the maxillary sinus. This procedure is suitable for the augmentation of small defects with a residual bone height of more than 6 mm. After lateral access through the facial wall of the maxillary sinus for the performance of the external sinus lift, the Schneiderian membrane is detached using the various manual instruments and lifted cranially from the floor of the sinus. After this, a suitable augmentation material can be inserted under the membrane.
