What Are The Different Types Of Dental Prostheses, And What Are They Used For?
As you know, dental prosthetics is a term that includes a range of intraoral, artificial dental devices that replace a single missing tooth, multiple teeth or a damaged tooth. The most common types include dental crowns, dental bridges, and veneers, as well as removable dentures and complete dentures. These all have their individual uses for dental technicians and professionals:
- Dental crowns are a dental prosthesis device used to cover damaged or decayed teeth.
- Veneers are artificial teeth designed to look like natural teeth that cover discoloured or chipped teeth. This improves aesthetics and gives the impression of healthy teeth.
- Dental bridges are a dental prosthesis device used to fill in the spaces and gaps left by missing teeth. They achieve this by anchoring onto adjacent teeth, a dental implant or other remaining teeth.
- Removable dentures, partial dentures and complete dentures are false teeth that are used to replace any missing teeth.
What Role Do Dental Implants Play In Prosthetic Dentistry?
Dental implants, as you also know, are often confused with dental prostheses, but are in fact used to attach the dental prosthesis device to the patient’s tooth root. This means that they are attached to and supported by the jawbone, rather than a patient’s soft tissues and surrounding teeth, which support any dental prosthetics.
The major role that dental implants play in prosthetic dentistry is ensuring oral health by preventing issues. The implementation of dental implants and the subsequent dental prosthesis device helps to reduce the risk of further tooth loss, bone loss, cavities, jaw deterioration and gum disease.
They are also versatile to a range of dental treatments, promising cosmetic and functional results, whilst offering unmatched stability and security for fixed prostheses. Dental implants are also incredibly easy to maintain and offer optimal patient comfort. For example, if you consider implant-supported, partial dentures in comparison to removable dentures, the most significant difference is the time-consuming additional cleaning required by conventional dentures. If properly cared for, dental implants and the replacement tooth roots they create can provide a permanent solution.
What Dental Prosthetics And Implants Do We Offer At Meisinger, And Why Are They The Best Option For Different Dental Treatments?
We offer a range of bone-level and tissue-level dental prosthetics. We also offer two different types of dental implants: bone-level implants and tissue-level implants. Both have different benefits and uses. As you know, bone-level dental implants tend to be used for any bone-level restorations, and are favoured for scenarios where two-phase procedures are essential. Tissue-level solutions, by contrast, are favoured for patients with a lower bone volume or density or who have experienced bone loss. They are typically used for trans or subgingival healing at a patient’s soft tissue level or for posterior teeth.
